While playing Skyrim, I discovered that I'm a little spoiled by Mass Effect. I expect my followers to have opinions about where we are and what we're doing. Climbing the 7000 steps for a pilgrimage? Taking out dragon #N only after it fries a couple of nearby villagers? Wading through frozen swamps after dark? No comment, no comment, no comment. (And no hypothermia, either, which I think is a lack in a game with this setting.) I'm sure the ME2 gang would have found something to say about all of the above.
But, Lydia the Carl may just be, well, stoic. She does come out with "I have never seen anything quite like that" and "I have a bad feeling about this" at context-appropriate points, which works even better if you translate them from Minnesotan. "I am sworn to carry your burdens" has note-perfect Minnesotan phrasing.
(While theoretically in California for the week, I'm not sure my brain has yet caught up. Hence the goof-off post. But I've managed to fix one bug this afternoon, which is something.)
