Nope, I haven't been to BARGE or any of the *ARGE's. My annual gambling excursion has been to the WSOP; two poker vacations would really be pushing it. (And neither I nor mrissa are all that fond of Las Vegas, and that's severely understating it in her case.)
2. What thing about the IT industry frustrates you the most?
I'm personally relatively un-frustrated at the moment.
I launch into technology rants every once in a while, but I guess if I had to pick the biggest one, it's that we just can't seem to make large software products successfully any more. Air traffic control systems, the FBI case file system, lots of private-sector horror stories too... it seems we're getting worse at writing software instead of better.
3. What was your favorite non-computer/science/math class in college?
There were courses other than CS and math?
I took a small group Jazz class that I liked quite a bit, and I played in the concert band for 4 years and the Jazz ensemble for three.
I had fun in my general ed requirements (there's a long story there that I won't get into) but I think the one I enjoyed most was the literature course. We read a wide variety of stuff and I had fun writing the essays--- the professor was good and didn't make things too serious.
4. What is your favorite movie of all time?
I don't think it's been made yet.
My favorite movie so far is "Colossus: the Forbin Project". The computer wins.
A recent favorite is "Meet the Robinsons".
5. What is one trait or habit that you just can't tolerate in other people?
This is an area that's very challenging to me. I don't feel its right of me to feel as much annoyance, impatience, or contempt for other people as I do. I'm working on developing a more loving attitude.
But, the one thing that sets me on edge most often is bad driving habits. I hate getting tailgated. I hate having some huge truck zoom by me in bad winter conditions. I just want a key on a big stick for drive-by keyings.
